Florida Elizabeth Shanks MARION-Florida Elizabeth Shanks, 84, of Marion passed away at 8:37 AM, Sunday, May 6, 2007 in Herrin Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Ken Johnson officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Mrs. Shanks was born on December 8, 1922 in Marion, Illinois to Josiah “Went” and Flora (Gower) Thomas. She married James Junior Shanks and he preceded her in death on August 25, 1989. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Theron and Michelle Shanks of Marion; grandchildren Cody Shanks, James “Alex” and Jaye Shanks, Mary “Beth” and Randy Frassato; great-grandchildren Briley Shanks and Cooper Shanks; sister Lorraine and brother William. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, James E. Thomas and Leo Thomas; and son James E. “Gene” Shanks. Mrs. Shanks was a member of the Scottsboro Baptist Church. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She had operated Shanks Grocery with her husband James in Scottsboro.
