Eugene Mayer MARION-Eugene Mayer, 84, of Marion passed away at 7:30 PM, Friday, June 30, 2006 at his residence surrounded by his family. In respect of Mr. Mayer’s personal wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral. Private services will be held. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Mayer was born August 20, 1921 in Williamson County, Illinois to J. E. “Ed” and Ola (Childers) Mayer. He married Bettie Lannom in 1946 in Piggott, Arkansas; together they shared a loving marriage for almost 60 years. Survivors include his wife Bettie of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Becky Mayer of Marion; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Tabatha Mayer, Barbara and Nick Reskusic, Jennifer Mayer, Michael Mayer and David Mayer; and great grandchildren, Sydney, Carly and Isabella Mayer and Arijana and Sophia Reskusic. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Avis and Helen; and brother, Marvin. Mr. Mayer was a Marion High School graduate. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. In 1946 he started Mayer Brothers Motor Sales with his brother, Marvin and the business continued until 1986. He served on the board of directors of the Bank of Egypt for many years until they sold to Banterra Bank and on the Unit 2 School board in the 70’s. He was an avid golfer.
