Ethel F. “Nanny” Payne Crab Orchard- Ethel F. “Nanny” Payne, 99, of Crab Orchard, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 6:33 PM at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until service time on Saturday with Reverend Ivan Ryan & Reverend Dick Sullins officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Paulton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Crab Orchard United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959. Ethel was born in Williamson County, IL on August 18, 1911 to John H. & Nancy Ann (Motsinger) Swan. She married Alvin E. Payne on August 28, 1931 in Herrin, IL. Alvin preceded her in death on September 4, 1956 after 25 years of marriage. Survivors include her children, J.H. & Winnie Payne of Marion and Kenneth & Dixie Payne of Kankakee, IL; daughter-in-law, Verna Lee Wall & her husband Donald of Marion; son-in-law, James Edwards of Marion; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; daughter, Ruth Ann Edwards; son, Clarence Payne; infant brother, Leo Swan and one great-grandchild, Amanda Taylor. Ethel was a charter member of the Crab Orchard United Methodist Church. She loved to quilt, read her bible and complete crossword puzzles. She was fondly known as “Nanny” and loved her family very much. She will be missed by all who knew her.
