Ernie E. Burns CARTERVILLE-Ernie E. Burns, 96, of Carterville passed away at 11:00 AM, Monday, March 1, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Brad Harlow and Reverend Edward “Shorty” Alsip officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Ernie was born on December 20, 1913 near Creal Springs to Harvey S. and Ida (Ollis) Burns. He married Mary Chola Midgett; she preceded him in death. He married Evelyn Yewell; she preceded him in death. He married Claudia Wynn; and she survives. Other survivors include granddaughter, Kim Burns; grandson and wife, Eric and Diane Burns; great grandson, Joel Burns McPherson; sisters, Imogene Moss and Vida Boyd; step-granddaughter, Donna Elliott; daughter-in-law, Joyce Burns; step-daughters, Ruth Ann Bean and Barbara Melvin; and nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, Estol Vernell Burns; three sisters; and one brother. Ernie retired from Pepsi-Cola after 37 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carterville. He served his country with the United States Army during World War II. He enjoyed farming and bird watching and was a former volunteer for “Meals on Wheels”.
