Emma Maxine Crossley, age 91, of Lamar, Missouri and formerly of Joplin, Missouri, died Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Truman Healthcare Center.
Maxine was born August 8, 1926 in Marionville, Illinois to Jean and Opal (VanVeer) Girtman. After she graduated high school and pursued her career in special education, she ultimately earning her Doctorate of Education. She was a speech specialist and educational specialist and finally a Principal of a school for children with disabilities. In 2009, she moved to Joplin from California, to live with her son. She was a member of the Zonta Club in California and was passionate about educating children.
Survivors include a son, Martin Crossley, Joplin, Missouri; a sister Elizabeth, New Mexico; two grandsons, James and wife Stephanie Crossley, Lamar, Missouri, Thomas and wife Jennifer Crossley, Joplin, Missouri; two granddaughters, Leslie, and Julie of Michigan; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Otto Crossley; a son, William Otto Crossley Jr., and a brother, Bill Girtman.
Graveside service will be 10:00 am on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Busby Cemetery, Goreville.
