Goreville
Ellen Lorraine Burd, 81 of Goreville, went to be with Jesus Saturday, June 16, 2012 at 11:00 PM at home with family by her side.
According to Ellens wishes, her body will be cremated and an Inurnment ceremony will be held by the family at a later date. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mrs. Burd was born in Glen Alum, West Virginia on February 26, 1931 to Bill & Lula (Lockard) Noe; the 2nd daughter of 14 children. Originally from the beautiful mountain region of West Virginia, she married Thomas Nichols in 1946, a coalminer not unlike her father. Together they had 2 children.
Ellen is survived by her daughters, Sharon & Carl Manier and Peggy Jennings, both of Goreville; grandchildren, Chris Schmidtke of Goreville, Tammy & Travis Kingsbury of Nashville, TN, and Alisa Morris of Kansas City, KS; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Raiynn Schmidtke of Marion and Aubrey and Jasper Kingsbury of Nashville, TN. and her 3 beloved pets, Boston Terriers-Toby & Suzie and Chihuahua, Mitzi.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandchildren, Darren Nichols and Jason Armstrong.
Ellen lived the majority of her life in the Chicago area. She spent 20 years working in a management position for Chicago-land AMVETS stores. She moved to Goreville 10 years ago; taking up residence next door to one of her beloved daughters.
The family wishes to thank Carl Manier for being a faithful son-in-law until the very end; grandson, Travis Kingsbury, for allowing Tammy and her children to stay with Ellen for her final week; Dr. Pramote and his staff; Hospice of Southern Illinois for their faithful care, especially Cheryl Baker.
Ellen now rests in peace and has found a new home among the Angels.
