Ellen Akens

March 19, 1952 — June 5, 2015

Carterville- Ellen R. Akens, 63, of Carterville, passed away early Friday, June 5, 2015 at Herrin Hospital. Ellen was born on March 19, 1952 in East St. Louis, IL to Charles and Genevie (Crossen) Clark. She married Erval “Dale” Akens on September 19, 1969 in Ozark, IL. He survives of Carterville. Ellen worked 20 years as an inspector at General Dynamics until her retirement early this year. She was Pentecost and formerly attended the United Pentecostal Church in Ozark. In her spare time she enjoyed craftwork and was skilled at oil painting. She enjoyed spending time with her family and hiking in the woods with her husband and grandchildren. Survivors include- Husband- Dale Akens of Carterville Daughter- Cheryl Lindsey and husband Tim of West Frankfort Daughter- Tammi Akens of Eldorado Seven grandchildren: Paden and Brianna Lindsey of West Frankfort Joshua Akens of Marion Michelle Owen of Carmi Samantha Owen of Eldorado Zachary Owen of Eldorado Michael Owen of Eldorado One great grandchild- Spencer Blumenstock Six Brothers and sisters: Tena Becker of St. Peters, MO Westen Clark of Paulton Kenny Clark of West Frankfort Willie Clark of Paulton Sheila Mayberry of Herrin David Clark of Carrier Mills She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandchild- Kaylynn Price. It was Ellen’s wish to be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.
