Elizabeth Patterson

September 15, 1943 — February 26, 2014

Marion-Elizabeth Ann (formerly Donovan) Patterson, 70, entered Heaven’s gates on February 26, 2014 surrounded by friends and family. Mrs. Patterson was born on September 15, 1943 to Thomas and Fran Clevenger. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband William G. Patterson, and grandparents. A lifelong educator, Mrs. Patterson retired from Marion Unit 2 Community School District in 1998, after more than 26 years of teaching. She loved teaching young children, and spent her time after retirement as a Sunday School teacher and working with underprivileged children. She was a first grade school teacher at both Lincoln Schools in Marion. She was an avid reader and enjoyed movies. She is survived by her daughters Shawnna Donovan of Marion; Elizabeth Dixon of Murphysboro; two grandchildren; Katlynn and John Dixon of O’Fallon, Missouri; her beloved dog Sully; many friends and family members; special friends Jennifer Wilson, Madison Wilson, Brandi Larsonamble, Pam Girdner, Amy Eckert, Carol Leeman, and many others. She is greatly missed by her family, friends, and former students. Arrangements are a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 4pm at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, IL. The Rev. Wade Halva will officiate. A memorial visitation will also be on Saturday from 2pm-4pm at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made out to the Marion Medical Mission or St. Francis Animal Shelter and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ 1704 N. Court St/ Marion, IL  62959.
