MARION-Ed Herring, 73, of Marion passed away at 11:47 AM, Sunday, April 3, 2005 at his residence. As per Ed`s personal wishes there will be no public visitation or funeral. Burial will be at a later date. Blue Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Ed was born on February 13, 1932 in Marion, Illinois to Artie and Bertie (Vickery) Herring. He married Irene Whipple on March 25, 1960. He was loved and will be extremely missed by his wife, Irene; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Herring, Rick and Pam Herring and Bill and Jewell Whitlock; grandchildren, Richard, Cassie, Michael and Kaitlyn Herring and Ronnie, Jerry and Scott Whitlock; great grandchildren, Ashley, A.J., Amber, Cory, Kaylee, Dakota and Jade Whitlock; brother and sister-in-law, Everett and FrancesHerring of the Lake of Egypt; sister, Hilda Herring; many nieces and nephews; and good friends, Jerry and Cindy Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Howard Herring. Ed was retired from the City of Marion where he served as the animal control officer for 22 years. He could be seen every day riding around town in his truck with his wife Irene and side kick, Chihuahua, `Little Bit`. He enjoyed collecting Case pocketknives and die cast cars and was a big John Wayne fan. He was always there to lend a helping hand. He was well liked by everyone and never met a stranger. More than anything he enjoyed spending time with his family.
