Marion- Dr. Charles W. “Doc” Rubright, Jr., 46, of Marion, passed away after a lengthy battle with colon cancer at 4:10 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Charles was born on June 26, 1971 in Dixon, IL to Charles William and Sharon (Morningstar) Rubright, Sr. He married Melissa Wilson on August 28, 1993 in DuQuoin. She survives of Marion.
He was a 1996 graduate of the Logan School of Chiropractic Medicine in St. Louis. He owned Rubright Spinal Rehabilitation in Herrin for many years. He was civically active having served in various positions within the Herrin Rotary and the Herrin Chamber of Commerce.
Doc was an endurance athlete. In his spare time he enjoyed competing and coaching triathlons. He finished 2 Ironman distance triathlons, many other triathlons of various distances and numerous road races of distances up to 100 miles. There was no quit in Doc, he had an independent spirit and incredible drive to succeed and finish when others could not. He was a giving and compassionate man who shared his wisdom of endurance completion with numerous other area athletes. He was the race director of numerous events like the Blue and Gold, TriFesta and the Hub Triathlon.
Doc dearly loved his family and friends. He was a prankster and enjoyed pranking his longtime assistant Judy or many of his family members. His caring and compassionate nature will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Sister- Beth Lindley and husband David of Marion
Sister- Olivia Rubright of Galatia
Office assistant for many years- Judy Panozzo of Mulkeytown
Several nieces and nephews including:
Brooke Warren and Cole Warren of Marion
Wyatt Dunn, Ian Dunn and DJ Lindley of Marion
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother- Brian Rubright.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Rev. Jimmy Reynolds will officiate and good friend and colleague, Jamie Roy will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, Monday, September 25, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
