Dr. Charles Ashby
MARION-Dr. Charles Ashby, 59, of Marion passed away at 1:11 PM, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 PM, Friday, November 3, 2006 at All Nations Church north of Marion with Reverend Tony Holley, Reverend Frankie Starrick and Reverend Joseph Baker officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 PM, Friday, November 3, 2006 at the church. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery south of Marion. Memorials may be made to the family; envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Dr. Ashby was born June 11, 1947 in Carmi, Illinois to Cecil and Violet (Pollard) Ashby. He married Carrie Lea Johnson on January 18, 1980 in Carmi; together they shared 26 years of marriage.
Survivors include his wife, Carrie; daughter, Jessica Ashby and her fiancé, Robert Amundson of Carterville; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jonathan Rowe of Nashville, Tennessee; son, Randy Ashby of Goshen, Indiana; grandson, Tristen Keeler; sisters and brother-in-law, Delores Gunter of Carmi and Alice and Ron Brown of Oswego; brother, Randy Ashby of Carmi; and his faithful companion, “Charlie”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Ashby, II; and sister, Barbara Gwaltney.
Dr. Ashby attended All Nations Church. He was an ordained minister for 40 years and served as pastor for several churches. He built the Community Chapel Church in Marion. He was a teacher at John A. Logan College in the Social Science Department. At the age of 50 he returned to school and received his Associate Degree, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Doctorate Degree. He loved to read.
Dr. Ashby passed away from Pancreatic Cancer, and the month of November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
