Max Cato MARION-Max Cato, 64, of Marion passed away at 4:45 PM, Thursday, September 21, 2006 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 25, 2006 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Jim Jackson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cana Cemetery in Goreville. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Cato was born April 24, 1942 in Goreville, Illinois to James and Helen (Vaughn) Cato. He married Joyce Pryor on September 26, 1960 in Herrin, Illinois together they shared almost 46 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife; son, Jerry Lee Cato of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Ray and Shannon Cato of Fayetteville, North Carolina; grandchildren, Nicki and Toby Holmes, Jacob Cato, Ashleigh Cato and Stacy Cato; great grandchildren, River Holmes and Brooks Holmes; and sister-in-law, Gloria Cato of Pensacola, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Cato. Mr. Cato worked as a pipefitter and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 551 for over 40 years. He served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147.
