Douglas Gilbert Holmes

Douglas G. Holmes Marion- Douglas G Holmes, 75, of Marion, passed away October 21, 2011 at 1:25am at River to River Assisted Living. Funeral services for Mr. Holmes will be held Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 1pm at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion. There will be a visitation from 11-1pm the day of the service at the funeral home. Rev. Matt Troxel and Rev. Gary Holmes will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, River to River Assisted Living or the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home or may be sent C/O Blue Funeral Home PO Box 411, Marion IL 62959. Mr. Holmes was born May 14th, 1936, to Douglas E. and Delia (Tanner) Holmes. He married Katherine Louise Stokes. She preceded him in death on January 4th 2009. Mr. Holmes worked as a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He is survived by son Noble (Lori) Holmes of Creal Springs, daughter Vicky (Doug) Babb of Pittsburg, daughter Lisa (Harry) Simpson of Creal Springs, daughter in law Marcy Holmes of Creal Springs, son Doug (Leisa) Holmes of Creal Springs and son Michael (Jeanie) Holmes of Creal Springs. Mr. Holmes is survived by three sisters; Pauline Kelly, Robbie Odem and Annabelle Laningham, and two sister-in- laws, Julia Holmes and Sue Holmes. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and four sons; Gilbert Eugene Homes, Randall Keith Holmes, Donald Clark Holmes and Jimmie Dean Holmes, three brothers; Loren Ralph Holmes, Larry Holmes and Ray Holmes and sister Lauren Ruth Beasley. Mr. Holmes attended Bethel Missionary Baptist Church and loved to go camping, and drive his golf cart. He was a loving father, grandfather and friend.
