MARION-Dorothy Mae Moore, 86 of Marion passed away at 7:30 PM, Sunday, September 13, 2009 peacefully in her sleep at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, September 17, 2009 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Glen Aulger officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Dorothy was born on July 23, 1923 in Chaffee, Missouri to Ernest Albert and Christina Helena (Kirn) Hunter. Her mother passed away when she was 5 years old and she was raised by her paternal aunt, Myrtle Walker. She married Burrell Volney Moore on February 26, 1940; together they shared 37 years of marriage until his death on September 28, 1977.
Survivors include her children, Christine and Norman Shorty McKinney, Charles and Ruth Jackie Moore, Maribeth and Charles Edmonds, Mae Lee and David Phillips, Joyce and Ron Baker, Patricia and Mark Herren, and David and Sandy Moore; grandchildren, Rhonda Melvin, Pamela Harpstrite and fiancé, Phil Richey, Cynthia and Randy Dimicelli, Evelyn Stacy, Christy and Rick Walter, Amy and Heath Aldrich, Beth and Dan Ensminger, John and Penny Edmonds, Elaine and Trevin Houk, Lisa and David Gosman, Natalie and Mark Gehrke, Dyana and Anthony Stephens, Jennifer and Roger Jeter, Emily and Derek Cook, Kendra and Derick Lenear, Andrew Baker, Kathy & Aaron Henry, Valerie and Erik Bethel, Angela and Andrew Merriman and Kayla and Darrell Terry; forty-four great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; brother, Charles and Ruth Hunter; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Mark Alan McKinney; brother, Walter Hunter; sisters, Mary Jane Taylor and Joan Gilfillan; and her dear aunt Myrtle Walker.
Dorothy was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church in Carterville where she was a volunteer librarian and took care of the card ministry. Dorothy was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, crocheting and her flower garden. She made beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. She always remembered all of her childrens, grandchildrens and great grandchildrens birthdays.
