Dorain O. Fletcher MARION-Dorain O. Fletcher, 77, of Marion passed away at 5:55 PM, Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Doctor’s Nursing Home in Salem, Illinois. Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Blue Funeral home in Marion with Reverend John Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday, April 17, 2006 at the funeral home. Military rites will be held at the funeral home by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Burial will be at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana at a later date. Dorain was born on February 24, 1929 in Christman, Illinois to Russell and Alice (Burk) Fletcher. He married Marlene Springer on April 11, 1981 in Marion. She preceded him in death October 8, 1998. Survivors include his granddaughters, Sabrina and husband Aaron Cantrell of Cookeville, Tennessee, Holly McGlacken of Plainfield, Indiana; great grandchild, Patrick Cantrell of Cookeville, Tennessee; and dear friend and pastor, John and Wanda Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife. After retiring from the United States Army as a Brigadier General, Mr. Fletcher went to work for the City of Marion as the Director of Economic Development, a position he held for 18 years. He had the utmost respect for the community and the respect of many local businesses. Mr. Fletcher was instrumental in Wal-Mart’s growth and expansion in the city of Marion. He was committed to enhancing the quality of life for those who lived in Marion. He was a member of the Marion Eagles, the Williamson County Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Order of the White Shrine. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Marion.
