MarionDonald R. Halbert, 72, of Marion, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011 at his home in Marion.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with the Reverend Mike Hood officiating; burial will be in White Oak Cemetery, south of Marion. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 5-8 PM at the Funeral Home. Don was born in Cherryville, MO on January 15, 1939 to Ralph & Irene (Key) Halbert.
He is survived by his wife 23 years, Alice Bennett-Halbert of Marion; daughter, Robyn & Bob Lindsay of Creal Springs; step-daughter, Mandy & Raymond Schuetz of Goreville; grandchildren, Colleen Elise Lindsay, Payton Evan Lindsay, Clark Aiden Lindsay and Hoyt Marshall Lindsay all of Creal Springs; step-grandchildren, Michaela Rae Schuetz, Kaitlyn Rose Schuetz and Ty Lucas Schuetz all of Goreville; brothers, Ray & Irene Halbert of Cherryville, MO, Clarid & Joyce Gibbs of Dillard, MO and Tom & Phyllis Gibbs of Davisville, MO; sisters, Nellie Wilhite of Davisville, MO, Margaret Hampton of Viburnum, MO, Loretta & Jesse Skeets Howdeshell of Bourbon, MO and Josephine Strange of Hillsboro, MO; mother-in-law, Thelma Pyatt of West Virginia; sisters-in-law, Barbara Gibbs of Sulphur Springs, IN, Nora McMillan of Beckley, WV and Donna Ward of Beaver, WV; brothers-in-law, Willard & June Bennett of Geneva, OH and Gary & Myrt Bennett of Elryia, OH; several other relatives and many friends.
Don is reunited in Heaven with his toddler son, Jeffrey Jay Halbert; parents, Ralph Halbert & Irene Halbert-Gibbs; step-father, George Gibbs; brothers, Dale & (wife) Verla Gibbs and Kenneth Wayne Gibbs; sisters, Argie & (husband) Warren Parrett, Clio & (husband) Kenneth Ware and Shirley Hedrick; brothers-in-law, Tom Wilhite and Johnnie Strange.
Donald was an active member and worker at the Scottsboro Baptist Church in Marion; he attended for over 44 years. He was employed as a Master Plumber for the Southern Illinois area through the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #551. Don enjoyed spending time with his family & friends and also riding his precious horse, Sky.
