Donald E. VanOrmer, 76, of Marion, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:51 pm at Parkway Manor.
Donald was born June 22, 1939 in Hull, Illinois the son of Donald H. and Mary Catherine (Roberts) VanOrmer. He married Gail Powell on September 18, 1964 in Johnston City and together they have shared over 51 years of marriage.
He was a Navy veteran during the Cuban Crisis. His memberships included the 1st United Methodist Church in Marion, the VFW, Jolly Boys, Second Team, BPOE Elks, and Jaycees all in Harrisburg. Donald enjoyed golfing at Kokopelli. He worked at the U.S. Forest Service, taught forestry at SIC in Harrisburg and SIU in Carbondale.
In addition to his wife, Gail he is survived by his;
Son – Tyler VanOrmer and wife Brandi of Brandon, Mississippi
Daughter – Allison Spence and husband Shawn of Marion
Four grandchildren;

Audrey VanOrmer
Sister – Diana VanOrmer of San Diego, California
Preceded by his Parents.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with the arrangements.
For those who prefer memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the 1st United Methodist Church of Harrisburg. Envelopes will be available and accepted at Blue Funeral Home, 1704 North Court Street, Marion, Illinois.
