Donald Childers

Johnston City-Donald A. Childers, 85, passed away at 12:15am on Tuesday, November 05, 2013 at Herrin Hospital Donald was born May 11, 1928 in Union County to Larkin and Inez (Williams) Childers.  He married Nellie Manus on September 20, 1947 in Piggott, Arkansas. They recently celebrated 66 years of marriage.  She survives of Johnston City. Donald retired from SI Power Cooperative and was an ordained Baptist minister for many years.  He enjoyed ministering to nursing home. Survivors include: Wife-Nellie Childers Sons: Rufus Childers and wife Bev Ralph Childers and wife Martha Dewayne Childers and wife Carol Daughter-Norma Rumsey and husband Harold Grandchildren: Kenny and Chrissy Childers Dale Childers Melissa and Micah Norris Randy and Michelle Childers Todd and Lindey Childers Bonnie and Matt Norman Sam and Lisa Mighell Kevin and Samantha Mighell Tammy and Rick Foutch Kim and George Bechelli 17 great-grandchildren One great-great grandchildren Brothers: Ray and Dorothy Childers Bill and Connie Childers He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Angie Childers and granddaughter-in-law, Jill Childers. The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Connors, nurse Amy, Hospice of Southern Illinois and all that rendered special care to their father. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Pastor Bill Gholson officiating.  Burial will follow at Anna City Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, November 8, 2013 from 11am until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Southern Illinois and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ PO Box 411/ Marion, IL  62959.
