Pittsburg- Donald L. Bayles, 78, of Pittsburg passed away at 3:55 AM on Friday, November 26, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, IL with the Reverend April Turner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oddfellows cemetery in Marion, where Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW post 1301, American Legion 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the service or can be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL, 62959.
Donald was born March 11, 1932 in Pittsburg, Illinois to Doyle & Venita (Avery) Bayles. He married Joyce Wisek on March 14, 1959 in West Frankfort, IL; she survives.
Survivors include his wife; son & daughter-in-law, Doug & Evelyn Bayles of Marion; grandchildren, Keven & Traci Stroud, Stephaney & John Odle and Michelle & Chad Maple; great-grandchildren, Bryce Pulley, Bailee Pulley, Tyson Stroud, Madison Odle, Zoe Maple and Zac Maple; brother, Jerry Bayles of Marion; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Janet & Wayne Hellberg of Pittsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Donald served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, flying in airplanes as a radio operator. He was a lifetime member of the VFW post 1301, member of the American Legion post 147. He enjoyed playing golf at the Jansco Stardust Golf Course, enjoyed fishing and was a lifetime and avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
