Dewey Edward Odum

Dewey E. Odum, age 88, of Creal Springs, Illinois, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 at Carrier Mills Nursing Home in Carrier Mills, Illinois.

Dewey was born June 16, 1934 in Creal Springs, Illinois, a son of George and Bessie (Doss) Odum. Dewey attended Odumburg School and worked with his father on the family farm. He joined the US Army serving from 1956 to 1958 in Germany. He married Dorris Jean Tanner on March 06, 1959 in Marion, IL. Together the owned a gas station in Creal Springs. He later worked at Olin/General Dynamics for 36 years. Dewey enjoyed racing stock cars, fishing, camping, gardening, woodworking a piddling in his barn.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberly J. White (Jeff Mitchell) of Johnston City, IL and Kristi J. Rix (Terry Schell) of Creal Springs, IL; six grandchildren, Karrie J. (Kevin) Harris, James R. (Amy) Clarida, Austin L. Groves, Thomas M. Clarida, Tyler E. Rix, and Trevor R. Rix (Charli Jo Orr); four great-grandchildren, Haley J. Harris, Hunter L. Harris, Zoey Clarida, and Kasen R. Clarida; two siblings, Marie Travelstead of AR, and Ray (Ellen) Odum of KY; and many nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorris J. Odum; his parents, George and Bessie (Dodd) Odum; brother Kenneth Lee Odum; brother-in-law Marvin Travelstead and his Close Friends, Charles (Imogene) Brush.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9th, 2022 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2022, 11:00 AM at Blue Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Shed Cemetery in Crab Orchard.
