Denver Carl Corn GOREVILLE-Denver Carl Corn, 88, of Goreville passed away at 3:45 AM, Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Goreville with Dr. Ron Ferguson and Reverend Cecil E. Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 23, 2006 at the church. Masonic services will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday. Burial will be at Brady Cemetery in Akin. Military rites will be held by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to the Goreville First Baptist Church; envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Corn was born on October 29, 1918 in Benton, Illinois to John Ray and Dorothy (Biddle) Corn. He married Mildred Frailey on June 12, 1939; together they shared 67 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Goreville; brother and sister-in-law, James and Wanda Corn of Manteno; sister, Beatrice Atchison of Benton; and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Mr. Corn was a World War II Veteran serving in Europe with the United States Army 127th Evacuation Hospital as a Medical Technician. He graduated from Benton Township High School and earned a Bachelor Degree, Masters Degree and Advance Degree from the University of Illinois. He taught Vocational Agriculture for six years. In 1954, he joined the University of Illinois Extension Service. He worked as an adviser in Franklin, St. Clair and Sangamon Counties. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Goreville, the Epsilon Sigma Phi Fraternity and Masonic Lodge #1128. He was a life member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association and National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
