Dennis Ray Crites

Denis Ray “Denny Ray” Crites, of Belle Rive, Illinois, passed away on January 21, 2025. Born on February 12, 1945, to Paul and Florence Crites. 

Denny married the love of his life, Johnnie Jacobs, in 1968, and they shared a wonderful life together until her passing on March 16, 2009. Together, they built a family filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. 

For over 45 years, Denny owned and operated Crites Diesel in Marion, Illinois, earning respect and admiration of his community. Outside of work, he was a man of many passions. Denny loved camping, boating, fishing, golfing, and tinkering on his old truck and lawn mowers. He took special pride in keeping his yard in pristine condition and enjoyed the simple joy of mowing his lawn. 

Denny is survived by his children: John (Vada) Crites, Jake Crites, and Cheyenne (Dave) Crites; his grandchildren: Brandon (Ashley), Austin, Dakota, Ayden Paul, Ellie May, David, Zachary (Cassie), Dennis “Denny,” and Joanie Crites; his sons: Chuckie Ward, Barry Ward, and daughter-in-law Jinny Crites; his brothers: Joe Crites and Charlie Crites; along with several beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Florence Crites; his wife, Johnny; his sons: Eddie, Jimmy, and Dennis Crites; his daughter, Donna Ward; and his brothers: William Paul, James David. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Cana Cemetery in Goreville, Illinois. Friends and family are invited to gather at the cemetery shortly before the service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society, honoring Denny’s kind spirit and love for animals. 

Denny Ray will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
