Clyde “Arky” Stevenson
MARION-Clyde “Arky” Stevenson of Marion passed away at 11:40 AM, Monday, May 21, 2007 at Fountain Nursing Home in Marion.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Don Colson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard.
Mr. Stevenson was born September 18, 1918 in Marion to Aubrie and Mittie (Lankford) Stevenson. He married Vivian Maxine Boatright on August 29, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; she preceded him in death on December 29, 1995.
Survivors include daughter, Brenda Crain of Marion; granddaughter and her husband, Dana M. and Richard Taylor of Marion; great grandchildren, Dustyn M. Taylor and Autumn Dawn Taylor; sister-in-law, Lillian Moore; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Joy Boatright and Jack and Eva Boatright; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Lester Stevenson and Aubrie Stevenson; and son-in-law, Jack L. Crain.
Mr. Stevenson was a retired coal miner from Freeman 4 Mine. He started flying at the age of 12 and later became a pilot, flight instructor, held an Inspectors license and an Airframe and Power Plant license for aircraft. He was in the Army Aircorp Enlisted Reserves during World War II. He was stationed in Racine, Wisconsin teaching pilots how to fly.
He was well known around town for riding his motorcycle and waving at people. He designed and built a bicycle with a motor and propeller on the back, he would pedal it twice to get it moving and fly around town. He was the first member of Addus Adult Day Care Center. He loved to fly model airplanes. He had many friends and he will be missed by all.
