MARION-Clifton C. Jones, 83, of Marion, passed away at 12:00 PM, Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 22, 2005 at the Church of Christ in Herrin with Pastor Scott Cody officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements. Mr. Jones was born on January 12, 1922 in Fleming County, Kentucky to George L. and Lela (Oliver) Jones. He married Catherine (Kowalsky) Fritch on October 26, 1947 in Connersville, Indiana, she preceded him in death on April 13, 2001. Survivors include son, Wayne Clifton Jones of Shell Beach, California; step-daughter, Shelby (Fritch) Logsdon of Eldorado; step-son, Michael Dwan Fritch of Tampa, Florida; grandchildren, Amanda (Jones) and Andrew Traxler of Cold Water, Michigan, Matthew Jones of Durango, Colorado, Katherine and Patrick Mings of Eldorado, and Jason Logsdon of Marion; and great grandchildren, Angela Jones of Cold Water, Michigan, Jack Mings and Samantha Mings of Eldorado, Amanda Logsdon of Marion, and Cody Logsdon of Vienna. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Bertha Stephens and Amy Williams; and one brother, Harlan Jones. Mr. Jones retired from the grocery business after 30 years. He was a member of the Herrin Church of Christ. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Infantry during World War II, he saw action in Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland and was awarded the Silver Star. He and Catherine loved their family and their church family. They found great enjoyment in traveling throughout the United States and in Europe.
