Charles Ray Grimes

March 17, 1941 — July 22, 2017

West Frankfort-Charles Ray Grimes, 76, passed away at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Herrin Hospital. Charles' wishes were to be cremated. A memorial services will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.   Charles was born in Marion, Illinois to Dolphus Woodrow Grimes and Samelda Imogene (Presley) Grimes. Charles was self-employed for the last 40 years of his life which included several local businesses utilizing his services. Those who knew him never called him Sir or Mr. and if you did he was quick tell you.  He will be missed by many, but he was loved deeply by his family.    Charles' survivors include three sons, Samuel Ray Grimes, of Zeigler, Billy Grimes (Renee Grimes) of West Frankfort, Scott Grimes (Amanda Grimes) of Marion, Illinois.  Daughters, Tara Travis of Sparta and Tammy Bundy of West Frankfort, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, grandchildren (15),  and great-grandchildren (3).  Charles was preceded in death by both parents, step-daughter Shellie Ann Marshall, two brothers Harvey Lee Grimes and Cletis Eugene Grimes, two Sisters, Shirley Fern Hill and Betty Ann Rodgers.   Ashes to Ashes Dust to Dust From ashes to ashes, from dust to dust You'll rise again, in this I'll trust You're in our hearts, 'till the end. We will meet again, I'm assured. You may be gone, but I know you're near. In my heart, I hold you dear. My only hope, in peace you'll rest. I still love you, I bet you guessed.  I'll see you soon, it's a must. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.... In lieu of flowers the family is accepting donations made payable to Blue Funeral Home.
