Charles Newton

Marion-Charles L. Newton, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at 6:45am at the VA Medical Center in Marion. Charles was born on December 1, 1927 in Goreville to Lowell Edward and Lena Afton (Escue) Newton. Charles was in the U.S. Army and retired from GTE after 42 years of service.  After his retirement, he worked at Sullivan Electric.  He was a member of the American Legion and the NRA and attended Spillertown Baptist Church.  Charles hobbies included gardening and working in his yard. He loved coaching little league baseball in Marion and loved the St. Louis Cardinals. Survivors include: Daughter & Son-in-law-Jane and Keith Cadle Grandchildren: Becky and Cole Moss Adam Cadle and Fiancé Erika Gutierrez Special Friend-Joyce Burns Aunt-June Thornton He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Tara Jo Cadle Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11am at Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Rev. Kevin McNeely officiating and Military Rites being performed by the Marion VFW with assistance from the Army National Guard. Burial will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Goreville.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 5pm-8pm at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Ritual Team and will be accepted at Blue Funeral Home/ PO BOX 411/Marion, IL 62959.
