Marion-Charles Ray Newell, 81, went to be with the Lord at 3:30am on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at the VA Medical Center.
Charles was born on October 28, 1933 in Marion to Henry Estes and Alice (Youngblood) Newell. He married the love of his life Lois Jeanette Whitehead on April 20, 1957 at Spillertown Baptist Church. She survives of Marion.
Charles served in the US Army in the Korean War. He worked for Dude Stilley running heavy equipment and helped build Interstate 57. Charles worked for Odum’s Concrete for many years. In his spare time he worked as a heavy equipment operator and owned his own bulldozer and built lakes and ponds in the area and enjoyed woodworking. Charles was a member of Spillertown Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon, a trustee and also sang in the choir. His family came first after God. Charles loved spending time with family and friends and always attended every function by his grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sybil Henson, Mildred Ruby Newell, Julia Holmes, Louise Peggy Boyd and Ruth Mifflin; brothers, John Newell, Paul Newell and James Newell; brothers and sisters in law, Hobb and Lenora Tanner, Bill Whitehead, John Randolph Whitehead, Bob and Maxine Whitehead, Floyd and Lodean McGuire and Virginia Whitehead.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 11am at Spillertown Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Shea officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at the cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5pm-8pm at the church. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.
