CARTERVILLE-Charles G. Norman, Master Sgt. DOD, Retired, 74, of Carterville passed away at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Al Williams officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Saturday, February 26, 2005 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mr. Norman was born on October 24, 1930 to Lawrence C. and Flossie (Smith) Norman in West Frankfort, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Colette Roberts, 53 years ago on September 14, 1951. Survivors include his devoted wife Collette; children, Allan and Mauri Norman of Marion, Charlie and Susan Norman, of Carterville, Barry and Lynn Norman of Glen Burnie, MD, Diane and Johnny Vaughan of Columbia MD, and Doug and Dora Norman of Catonsville, MD; thirteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Normalene Brush. A decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Charles served his country for 27 years with the Army Security Agency. After Army retirement he continued to serve as a computer scientist with the National Security Agency. An accomplished golfer, Charles returned to Southern Illinois in 1986 and was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles and AmVets in Marion. Charles will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
