Charles E. Rodd
MARION-Charles E. Rodd, age 92, of Marion, Ohio formerly of Marion, Illinois, went home to be with the Lord Monday, December 28, 2009, at Marion Manor Nursing Home, Marion, Ohio, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Dennis Mohr presiding Minister. Visitation will be 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to Gideon International, The Salvation Army or the Center for the Advancement in Cancer Education; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Charles was born on August 27, 1917, in Marion to Archie and Elva Rodd. It was there he met and married Florence Chamness in 1940.
After he graduated from Goodyear Management School in 1945, he was employed as a supervisor with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company of Akron for 37 years. In 1959, he was transferred to Hickory, N.C., to help start a new Goodyear plant there, and then in 1963 he was and transferred again to help start a new plant in Logan, Ohio.
While in Logan, Charles and Florence, along with Mel and Faye Adams were two of the founding families of First Baptist Church of Logan where Charles served as both deacon and treasurer. He was also a member of Gideon International.
After the death of Florence in 1996, he became reacquainted with Faye Adams when he sent a contribution to Alzheimer?s Foundation in memory of Mel. After a year and a half of letter writing, he and Faye were married on October 24, 1998. Two of his favorite sayings were that between them they had over 100 years of marriage experience, and ?How could a man be so fortunate as to have two wonderful women for a wife??
He is survived by his wife, Faye, and his five children: Mrs. Jerry (Peggy) Crosby of Laurelville, OH; Mrs. Stan (Sharon) Whitehead of Duluth, GA; Mrs. Robert (Kathy) Ockuly of Bellevue, WA; Ms. Rebecca Rodd of Logan, OH; and Mr. C. David Rodd of Deltona, FL; two stepchildren: Mr. Stephen Adams of Grand Rapids, MI; Mrs. Robert (Lynn) Swaney of Marion, OH; two granddaughters: Mrs. Brad (Audean) Dunham and Miss Elizabeth Rodd; one grandson: Mr. Joseph Crosby; and two nephews: Mr. Kenneth Rodd and Mr. Larry Rodd.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence, an infant sister, Sarah, and his brother, Kenneth.
