Carolyn Sue Mayfield-Askew MARION- Carolyn Sue Mayfield-Askew, 70, of Marion passed away at 1:56 Am, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family. Carolyn was born July 17. 1940 in Goreville, Illinois to Ernest T. & Geneva (Morgan) Grisham. She was married to Sam Askew and he survives. Survivors include her children; sons, Mike Mayfield, Daniel & Nancy Mayfield all of Marion; daughter, Melanie & Robert Concepcion of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren, Dylan Mayfield, Zachary Pineda, Robbie Concepcion, Caleb Mayfield, Danielle Mayfield and Joseph Concepcion. She attended school in Goreville from 1946-1957 and graduated Marion Township High School in 1958. Carolyn attended classes at Murray State University and worked for the State of Illinois as a key punch operator in Springfield, Illinois. She was a member of the American Registry of Medical Assistants, Marion VFW Post 1301 Ladies Auxiliary and the Marion Eagles Auxiliary. Sue was an avid collector, flea market and garage sale devotee. It was Carolyn’s wish to be cremated and no funeral service. She left the following message: “To those of you relatives and friends who attended my celebration of July3rd of this year, it was a celebration of my life the way I wanted to be remembered. I know death is a sad occasion for the living, but a ticket to paradise with no pain and suffering for the person that died. I am in a better place and I hope that you will celebrate with the memories we shared. I never met a person I hated and never met a friend I lost. So, be happy in knowing I love you all.” Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois & East Liberty Cemetery; envelopes are available at the funeral home; or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
