Carol Jean Farner
MARION-Carol Jean Farner, 61, of Marion passed away at 11:10 AM, Saturday, December 9, 2006 at Fountains Nursing Home in Marion surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Victor Long officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to the John A. Logan Foundation or Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Carol was born on June 17, 1945 in Marion, Illinois to Ralph Eugene and Daphne (McKeaken) Hilliard. She married Charles “Butch” Farner on January 9, 1967; together they shared almost 40 years of marriage.
Survivors include her husband, Butch of Marion; son and daughter-in-law, Scott Hilliard and Gabriele Farner of Marion; grandsons, Zachary and Tucker Farner; her father, Ralph Eugene Hilliard of Marion; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Debbie Hilliard of Marion; and sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Terry Hood of California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She retired from Marion Unit #2 after 39 years as a teacher. She was instrumental in starting female athletics and was the first girlâs softball coach at Marion. She was currently a member of the John A. Logan Board of Trustees and the John A. Logan Band. She was a past owner and operator of Tutorâs and Tots Day Care Center in Marion.
She dedicated her life to education and she enjoyed helping people.
