Carl H. Laib, Jr. GOREVILLE – Carl H. Laib, Jr., 84, of Goreville, passed away at 6:00 AM, Thursday, February 10, 2011 at his home. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Pastor Scott Kelley officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM until the time of service on Sunday at the Funeral Home. Carl was born on April 7, 1926 in Chicago to Maybell (Valiquet) & Carl Laib, Sr. He married Norma (Huchel) Fore on May 11, 1996 in Goreville; she operated a bookkeeping & tax service in Goreville and survives. Survivors include his wife; children, Carl & Donna Laib of St. John, IN and Dr.’s David & Helen Laib of Rockford; grandchildren, John & Nicole Laib of Chicago, Sarah & Sam French of Fort Wayne, IN, Andy & Katina Laib of Tustin, CA and Amy Laib of Rockford; great-grandchild, Jacob Laib of Chicago; sisters, Virginia Brandt of South Holland, IL, Dorothy Gyerko of Blue Island, IL, Loretta & Ken Swart of Lowell, IN and Sandy & Corky Gragido of Val Pariso, IN; brother, Robert Laib of Joliet and 22 nieces & nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Shirley Boren. Carl served his country as a Seaman in the United States Navy stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for Engles Hospital in Harvey, IL as a maintenance foreman over hospital room equipment; he retired after 17 years. He then worked as a security guard in Marion for several years. Carl was an accomplished stained glass artist. Every member of his family, including his in-laws and 22 nieces & nephews, possess a stained glass lamp that he created in remembrance of his life and talent.
