GOREVILLE-Billie Gene Dunn, 81, of Goreville passed away at 7:30 PM, Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Pastor Dale Billingsley officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will be at McKinney Chapel Cemetery. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post 1301, American Legion Post 147 and the National Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and the American Cancer Society; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mr. Dunn was born on November 2, 1928 in Johnson County, Illinois to Walter and Hattie (Tucker) Dunn. He married Shirley Jane Howard on August 31, 1957 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri; together they shared 46 years of marriage until her death on June 11, 2004.
Survivors include his sons Carl & Karen Dunn of Herrin, Clay Dunn & Calvin Dunn both of Goreville grandchildren, Kimberly & Patrick Gurley, Michael Dunn, Nikolas Dunn, & Cathryn Dunn; brother, Joe Dunn of Goreville; and sister, Gail Mead of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; grandchild, Noel Dunn; brothers, Red Dunn & C.W. Dunn; and sisters, Rosie Tucker, Ruth Cruse, & Margaret Boner.
Mr. Dunn served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad. He was a member of McKinney Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed reading the Bible, hunting in his early years, fishing until his health would not let him. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, most of all his grandchildren.
