Benjamin C. Lowery

Benjamin C. Lowery, age 84, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Creal Springs, Illinois, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2020 at 6:20 p.m. in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Illinois.

Ben was born on October 22, 1935 in Tunnel Hill, Illinois, a son of William F. and Nettie A. (Tanner) Lowery.  He married Barbara Thompson in June of 1988 in Paducah, Kentucky and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2014.  Ben worked as an accountant for the F.S. Companies.  He enjoyed camping and traveling with his wife, and loved reading and spending time with his grandchildren.  Ben was an active member of First Baptist Church of Creal Springs and served as a deacon.  He previously served as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent, and as a church song leader.  Ben was a very loving and caring man who will be missed by many.

Survivors include three step-sons, Brit (Mary) Rose of St. Louis, Missouri, James (Angie) Rose of Arnold, Missouri and Billy (Sherry) Rose of Chester, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Alicia (Aaron) Hinsen, Ashley Rose, Alyce Rose, Ben Rose, Montana Rose, Canada Rose and Arizona Rose; two sisters, Robbie Upchurch of Creal Springs and Phyllis Kay Lowery of Marion; five nieces; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara; two brothers, William A. Lowery and David R. Lowery; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church, Creal Springs on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. with Reverend Ted Conner officiating.  Burial will follow in County Line Cemetery, Creal Springs.

Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

For those who prefer, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church and will be accepted at the church during the visitation or at the funeral home.
