Amelia Geneva Thompson

MARION-Amelia Geneva `Smokey` Thompson, 80, of Marion passed away at 2:40 AM, Sunday, May 23, 2004 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the Blue Funeral Home, Marion with Reverend Frankie Pierce and Reverend Todd Greiner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, May 24, 2004 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lake Creek Cemetery, Marion. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by VFW Post #1301 and American Legion Post #147. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent co Blue Funeral Home PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959. Mrs. Thompson was born on June 22, 1923 in Williamson County, Illinois to George L. and Lazada (Hartwell) Haseker. She married James Mell Thompson on May 24, 1946 in Williamson County and he survives. Smokey had no children of her own, but raised and is survived by her nephews and niece, Ron L. Haseker, Mike Haseker and his wife Vickie, and Michele Whitehead-Otto all of Marion; their children, Michael, Shelly and Hailey Haseker; she was known as `MaMa` to, Amy, Daniel and Rachel Whitehead; also surviving, brother and sister-in-law, Estes and Mildred Haseker of Pittsburg; sisters, Louise Moss of Flemington, Missouri, and Nelma Mandrell of Harrison, Arkansas; she was involved in many of her other nieces and nephews lives. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George Haseker, Jr.; and sister, Helen Eberhardt. Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She worked for Spires Clothing and retired from TVW Clothing Store in Marion. She served in the United States Army (Women`s Air Corp) as a Sergeant.
