Alvin William Nowak
GOREVILLE-Alvin William Nowak, 87, of Goreville passed away at 7:46 PM, Saturday, October 28, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Goreville with Dr. Ron Ferguson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, October 30, 2006 at the church. Masonic services will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday evening. Blue Funeral Home in Goreville is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will be at Busby Cemetery in Goreville on his mother's birthday. Military rites will be held at the cemetery by Marion VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147. Memorials may be made to Goreville First Baptist Church building fund or the Masonic lodge building fund; envelopes will be available at the church or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mr. Nowak was born on June 8, 1919 in Union, Illinois to Paul and Mary (Schmidt) Nowak. He married June Portschey on January 17, 1943 in Chicago; she preceded him in death on April 21, 2003.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and William Barton of St. Joe, Michigan; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Ronald Voglewede of St. Joe, Michigan, Darcy and Matthew Miller of Grand Junction, Michigan, Kyle Barton of Holland, Michigan, Melissa and Caine Larson of Marion, and Melanie and Brad Maple of Marion; great grandchildren, Keegan McGee, Mya Larson, Elise Voglewede, Alana Voglewede, and Madelyn Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Pamela Denis; brother, Leverne Nowak; and sister, Ellenora Huebner.
Mr. Nowak was a member of the First Baptist Church in Goreville. He retired from the maintenance department at Stone Container. He was a lifetime member of the Saline Masonic Lodge #339. He served his country with the United States Army. He was an honorary member of the World War II Memorial in Washington DC.
