Alta Underwood

Goreville Alta LaVerne Underwood, 90, of Goreville passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at 7:22 PM at her home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM in Blue Funeral Home in Goreville with Reverend RG Null officiating. Interment will follow in Busby Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 20, 2012 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association. Mrs. Underwood was born in Harrisburg on April 22, 1922 to Walter & Clarissa (Owen) Sisk. She married James Frelin Underwood, Sr. on September 9, 1945 in Peoria. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1981. Alta is survived by her children, Judy & Harold Wheaton of Lick Creek, Anthony & Arlene Underwood of Mounds and Agnes & Skip Paul of Goreville; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 step-great-great-grandchildren and sister, Wanda McNary. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sons, James Frelin Underwood, Jr. and Arthur Underwood & sister, Mary Sisk.. Alta loved solving puzzles, bird watching, television game shows and gospel singing. She worked as a caregiver until the age of 85. Mrs. Underwood will be missed.
