Obituary
Marion- Alfred William Reiter, 92, of Marion, passed away at 11:35 PM, Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the VA Nursing Center in Marion.
Alfred was born on January 8, 1919 in Chicago to Alfred Stephen & Olga (Werner) Reiter. He married Gladys Madsen on October 13, 1945 in Chicago. She survives of Lake of Egypt.
Alfred was honorably discharged from the US Army after serving 3 ½ years in active combat in the Philippines and Pacific theatre. Once stateside he worked many years as a field engineer for International Harvester in Hinsdale until his retirement.
In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, square dancing and playing pinochle with his friends. He loved to tinker and mess with cars, grow vegetable and flowers in his garden, and take care of his parakeets and tropical fish. He was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan and liked to watch Mark Martin and Tony Stewart in NASCAR. He had a colorful personality and was a good man who will be dearly missed by those that knew him.
He was a member of the VFW, Moose and Eagles Clubs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sons- Frank Dennis Buddy Dersch-Reiter and Douglas John Reiter and one sister- Francis Meredith.
Mr. Reiter will be cremated and private memorial services will be held at a later date. Memorial arrangements were made at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.
