James R. Graves

Marion- James Raymond Graves, 64, of Mt. Vernon, formerly of Marion, passed away at 2:15 AM, Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Mt. Vernon Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon.

James was born on October 4, 1953 in Carbondale to Mathew & Helen Ruth (Launius) Graves, Jr.

He worked as a repairman at Peabody Coal in Sparta for 17 years. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. James was a Christian and attended Cornerstone Church in Marion and New Life Church in Johnston City.

In his spare time he enjoyed spending time outdoors- hunting, fishing and riding his four-wheeler. He also enjoyed tinkering with cars, shopping at Wal-Mart and eating good food. He will dearly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include-

Daughter- Teresa Graves of Mcleansboro
Son- Steven L. Graves and wife Desiree of McLeansboro
Son- David J. Graves and wife Ashley of McLeansboro
Nine grandchildren
One great grandchild on the way
Sister- Kathryn Ozment and husband Alan of Collinsville
Brother- Gerry Graves and wife Melissa of Marion
Brother- Eric Graves and wife Amy of Marion
Several nieces and nephews
Many close friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter- Kelly Dawn Graves and siblings- Carolyn Graves and Mathew Graves III.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Coal Bank Springs Cemetery in Crab Orchard. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the graveside. Memorial arrangements were made at Blue Funeral Home in Marion.

    Jim Bob, who l knew from Faith Ministry at Sparta, was a good guy–a little crazy, way back then, but a very good guy. He loved God and his kids. He loved to praise the Lord!
    We moved from Sparta and l often wondered what ever happened to Jim. He was a friend ready to offer help if you needed it. I loved him, in the Lord.
