Carl “Squirt” Heath

Marion-Carl “Squirt” Heath, 76, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at his home in Marion, IL, surrounded by family and friends. Though his legal name was Carl, he was known to almost everyone as simply “Squirt” – a name given to him as a little boy.

Carl was born November 17, 1941 to Fred and Hazel (Anderson) Heath in Evansville, IN. They preceded him in death. He attended Ridgway High School before serving in the US Army from 1959 to 1962, where he was stationed in Thule, Greenland. In 1963, he began working as an Equipment Installer for Automatic Electric (later GTE), where he worked until his retirement in 1993. He married the love of his life, Rebecca Kay Martin on September 13, 1969 at Pisgah General Baptist Church in Junction, IL.

A lover of classic cars, he always had an extra oldie or two in the garage that he enjoyed tinkering with. He also enjoyed golfing and serving his Lord through his church, Heartland Christian Church in Marion.

He is survived by wife Rebecca Kay and one daughter, Georgiann (Antonio) Amorin, Barrington, IL. He is also survived by one brother, Ray (Glenda) Heath, Eldorado and two sisters, Mary Ann (William) Baker, Junction and Cheryl (Donnie) Mills, Morganfield, KY, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 10am on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Heartland Christian Church in Marion. Funeral services will follow at 12pm on Wednesday at the church. Burial services will be at 3pm on Wednesday at Lindale Memorial Gardens, Eldorado, IL. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements.

If desired, memorial donations to Carl may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, 305 S. Illinois, Belleville, IL 62220 and will also be accepted at Blue Funeral Home.

I carry fond memories of Carl “Squirt” from the early days of marriage to Becky (who is my first cousin). He was a natural fit for the Martin family and the perfect man for Becky. I regret through the years I drifted away from the family reunions where Squirt was always very active member. He will be missed but never forgotten. His contributions will live on forever. May his Soul rest forever with our Lord.

Becky, Carl and you were wonderful next door neighbors. Carl was so kind and helpful, and could fix just about anything my sweet husband couldn’t. We enjoyed our friendship so much, and I wish you comfort in memories as you grieve. Sending my love.

I am so sorry to hear of Squirt’s passing! He was so kind to all I saw him interact with! My Dad, David Greathouse, really appreciated his welcoming personality and he made Dad feel at home from their first meeting. May God give you all peace and comfort!

I always thought of Carl as one good solid Christian, loving husband to my Cousin Becky, farther to Gorgie and neighbor, and I’m sure, co worker.
He made our family proud. Rest in peace, Carl
