MARION-Edith w. Hay, 94, of Marion passed away at 4:30 PM, June 15, 2006 at Parkway Manor Nursing Home in Marion.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the Blue Funeral Home in Marion with Reverend Bill Rucker officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 22, 2006 at the funeral home. Military rites will be held by VFW Post 1301 and American Legion Post 147 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ and Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.
Mrs. Hay was born on October 12, 1911 in Jonesboro, Illinois to Clarence and Jennie (Williford) Walker. She married Charles C. Hay on June 3, 1967 in Murphysboro; he preceded her in death on February 19, 1993.
Survivors include sisters, Ruth Parks of Tuscola and Mable Ussery of Anderson, Indiana; and sister-in-law, Betty McDevitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Robert, Bill, Dan, and Richard Walker; and sisters, Gladys Halderman and Betty Duffy.
Mrs. Hay previously worked as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Marion, she was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Fortnightly Club, the sewing club at old Marion Memorial Hospital and a life member of the Marion Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She loved working in her rose garden. She served her country in the United States Army during World War II in England. She was one of the first women to be sent overseas.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the employees at Parkway Manor for their kindness, compassion and care given Mrs. Hay during her stay with them.
