Creal Springs-Riley L. Chamness, 87, of Creal Springs passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at 7:36 AM in Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2011 from 9-11 AM at Blue Funeral Home in Marion. Funeral services will be at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with Reverend Shorty Alsip officiating. Burial will be County Line Cemetery in Creal Springs.
Riley was born on September 19, 1923 in Creal Springs to Flaud & Louetta (Atwood) Chamness. He married Dorothy Bazel on October 15, 1946 in Piggott Arkansas. They shared 55 years together before her death on May 10, 2002.
Survivors include his children, Don & Donna Chamness, Jackie & Darlene Chamness, Helen & Bruce Hileman, and Mary Sullivan all of Creal Springs, Danny & Sandy Chamness of Crab Orchard and Ricky & Sharon Chamness of Carrier Mills; grandchildren, Deirdre, Cindy, Patricia, Lana, Niki, Brandi, Jeri, Chris, Scott, Joey, Britney, Kristin, Ginger, Ashley and Crystal; several great and great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Elijah Chamness and Flaud “Jr” Chamness and sister, Katherine Sheretz.
Riley was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, Jerry Chamness; son-in-law, Bob Sullivan; 2 sisters and 4 brothers.
Mr. Chamness was a heavy equipment operator, a member of the Creal Springs VFW Men’s Auxiliary, past member of the Knights of Pythias. He was of Baptist faith.
