DeLora Mae Penny

MARION-DeLora Mae Penny, 79, of Marion passed away at 7:46 AM, Monday, August 16, 2010 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Blue Funeral Home in Marion, with Reverend Dr. Ray Long officiating. Visitation will be from 10:30 AM until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois; envelopes are available at the funeral home or may be sent c/o Blue Funeral Home, PO Box 411, Marion, IL 62959.

Mrs. Penny was born on May 7, 1931 in Cisco, Illinois to John Dewey Muir & Zona Lillian (Hart) Muir Myers. She married Robert L. Spaniol on June 27, 1954 in Canton, Illinois. She later married Billy E. Penny on March 29, 1980 in Decatur, Illinois.

Survivors include husband, Billy E. Penny of Marion; daughter, Lynda M. Spaniol-Kerstein & husband Karl of Springfield, son & daughter-in-law, James A. & Dianne Spaniol of Decatur; and Billy’s children, Wendell L. Penny & fiancé Betty Beaugoin of Dieterrich, Illinois, Jeffrey A. & Alice Penny of Bourbonnais, Illinois, and Peggy S. Penny of Arizona; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John “Jack” Edward Muir; sister, Mary Louise Muir Lutzow Vomastek.

Mrs. Penny graduated from MacMurry College in Jacksonville, Illinois in 1953 with a Home Economics Degree. She retired from Decatur Public Schools on June 7, 1990 after 28 years of teaching.
